Republican Paxton, 60, criticized the impeachment process as “political theater” that will “inflict lasting damage on the Texas House,” adding to his prior assertions that it was an attempt to deny the voters who elected him in November their right to vote.

When Republicans in the House of Representatives begin the storied impeachment process against him, Texas attorney general Ken Paxton has invited his supporters to demonstrate at the statehouse.

At a press conference, he stated, “I want to invite my fellow citizens and friends to peacefully come let their voices be heard at the capitol tomorrow,” declining to take any questions.

In light of charges of bribery, ineligibility for office, and abuse of the public trust, to name just a few, the state House has scheduled a vote for Saturday to consider impeaching Paxton and suspending him from his position .“These allegations have followed him for the most of his three tenure”.

If Paxton were to be impeached, Greg Abbott, the Republican governor, would immediately suspend Paxton from his position and name a temporary replacement.

According to the Tribune, investigators claimed they thought Paxton had improperly spent government money and abused his power to support a friend and financial backer.

On January 6, 2021, a mob brutally stormed the US Capitol in Washington, echoing former president Donald Trump’s call for protests against his electoral defeat.

On the day the governor is scheduled to address lawmakers in a Memorial Day address, Paxton, who spoke at the rally that preceded that uprising, called his followers to the Texas state house.

Due to claims that Paxton used his office to assist a donor, the FBI has been looking into him for years. Although he was separately charged with securities fraud in 2015, he has not yet gone to trial.

According to the Texas Tribune, four investigators outlined their methods in “painstaking and methodical detail” on Wednesday when appearing before the House general investigation committee.

One of the most notable legal fighters for the Republican party, Paxton, who in 2020 petitioned the US Supreme Court to overturn President Joe Biden’s win, could see a surprisingly swift demise as a result of the campaign to impeach him.

Despite the fact that many prominent conservatives have been noticeably silent on Paxton, some started to support him on Friday. Matt Rinaldi, the head of the state Republican party, called the trial a “sham” and urged the Republican-controlled Senate to acquit Paxton if he were to be tried there.

According to The guardians , Rinaldi echoed Paxton’s criticism of GOP House speaker Dade Phelan, saying, “It is based on allegations already litigated by voters, led by a liberal speaker trying to undermine his conservative adversaries.” The Senate would need to “restore sanity,” he claimed.
