The city of Ishasha, which is in the grouping Binza, territory of the Rutshuru, and is located about 130 kilometers to the north of Goma, is still uneasy. She is controlled by FDLR rebels who compete in the area, as well as self-defense groups collectively known as “Wazalendu,” despite the fact that the area is under the control of the regular army.

According to congruent sources, the residents of Ishasha must deal with the repeated nighttime raids, kidnappings, tracasseries, and pillages carried out by the “Wazalendu” and the FDLR.

They are specific in saying that this week, these attackers pillaged about ten homes. In these homes, they had some valuable possessions deposited. A vault called “AVEC” was broken into and vandalized, along with other theaters.

More than eight barriers have been built by the Wazalendu on the Kiseguru-Iihada turnpike, where each passing motorist must pay 1.000 congolais francs.

These uncontrollable militaries commit numerous exactions against the civilian population that has long been decimated by war in addition to illegal levies, according to the same sources.

The Rutshuru notables are outraged by this scenario and request the involvement of the congolais government in order to move swiftly toward the identification of these Wazalendu for appropriate handling.
