Since Friday, May 26, the dialogue between the armed groups operating in Ituri has taken place in Aru-centre, 260 kilometers north of Bunia (Ituri).
These gatherings were organized by the province government with the goal of resolving their differences and ensuring adherence to the agreements they signed for the complete end of hostilities in Ituri.
These armed organizations are present during this dialogue:
CODECO, a cooperative for Congo’s development
-Zaire/Mapi,
-The Congolese Patriotic and Integrationist Force (FPIC)
The FRPI, or the Patriotic Resistance Front of Ituri.
These militias engage in conflicts with one another, which results in deaths and property destruction. They accuse one another of breaking the peace agreements.
The Ituri provincial government claims that this fighting between armed groups is interfering with the peace.
In order to resolve the armed confrontations that have continued since 2017, the organizers claim that this meeting will provide them the chance to discuss their disagreements face-to-face.
These armed groups are also informed on the issue of minors affiliated with armed groups, the program for disarmament, demobilization, and community reintegration, as well as the fight against impunity, during this meeting.
This strategy aims to persuade their political leaders to support social cohesion, security, and peace.
The return of displaced people, the freedom of movement of individuals and their belongings, the restoration of economic activity in some unstable areas, the readiness of armed groups to incorporate the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and (P-DDRCS) Stabilization Program.
The regional government declares that the signature of a contract of mutual non-aggression will validate this gathering.
The assistance of MONUSCO is helpful for these gatherings.#radio Okapi.
