In the most recent episode of the nation’s gun violence problem, a shooting spree left at least four adults dead and two children injured in Philadelphia, according to authorities.
According to Philadelphia police commissioner Danielle Outlaw, “those killed were all males aged between 20 and 59,” while the two youngsters injured were two and thirteen years old.
She added, “Yes, he was actively shooting a firearm at the time our police were chasing. I don’t know if he was firing the rifle at the time we were pursuing or the pistol.
Earlier, local media sources claimed that the gunshot had injured four individuals, but Outlaw reported that just two persons, both youngsters, had been hurt.
According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which counts at least 21,696 fatalities this year, including 12,144 suicides, Monday’s shooting was at least the 341st to occur in the United States.
A “mass shooting” is, according to the GVA, a gun-related occurrence in which four or more individuals are hurt or killed.
In the United States, gun violence claimed at least 44,357 lives in 2017; more than half of were suicides.
According to Outlaw, the massive crime scene covered at least eight city blocks and was roped off by police, as seen in local television footage.
We don’t know why this occurred in the least. I’ve already mentioned that we have this person in custody, and we’re doing everything we can to positively identify them.
Police claimed to have also captured a second individual, who they suspect fired back at the assailant.
