On Saturday, July 1, human rights organizations accused President Félix Tshisekedi of providing orders to police that violate human rights. As a result, these groups responded to the President’s speech on Sunday, June 25, at Bishop Bernard Kasanda’s jubilee liturgy in Mbuji-Mayi according to Okapi radio.
These NGOs list arbitrary detentions, kidnappings, the proliferation of purportedly security services, and kidnappings in Kinshasa by security agents “under false reasons for breaching security or threatening security” as examples of these violations.
These groups state that there can be “no more doubt” as to who is the main perpetrator and intellectual creator of atrocities against people and their property.
These entities get to the conclusion that the Head of State is taking responsibility for the atrocities committed by saying that he doesn’t value human rights and fundamental freedoms.
No matter what they claim, including violations of human rights, denial of freedom, or even that there is no lesson to be learned from anyone, President Tshisekedi declared, “I will attack without hesitation and without remorse any Congolese who would endanger the security and stability of our country.”
These NGOs were drawn to this line because it reminded them that acts against civilians or those who hold opposing views to the regime can be carried out for security grounds.
However, they continue, these are actions that are against the nation’s laws and constitution.
These NGOs claim in this news release that they have taken note of the Head of State’s statement and believe that it conflicts with the ideals of the rule of law that they wish to promote.
