The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary adversary of the Sudanese army, have been fighting it out in Khartoum, the country’s capital, and the army has requested reinforcements to help.
In addition to the RSF’s increased military presence, residents in the capital’s southern region claimed to have seen the reinforcement forces.
For the past two days, the RSF’s military facility there has been under attack by the Sudanese army, which is attempting to seize control of it. The base is to be kept as far away from by the locals as feasible.aljaazera reports.
The goal, in reality, is to save face and gain some leverage before engaging in negotiations with the Rapid Support Forces, reporter said, adding that they want to try to retake some territory in Khartoum that they do not currently control.
“The second reason would be related to trying to maintain its little remaining symbolic support from Khartoum constituents,”.
The Sudanese Red Crescent said on Friday that 180 dead rescued from combat zones had to be buried by volunteers due to the ongoing violence, which has lasted more than seven weeks since the conflict between the army’s rival generals and the RSF erupted on April 15.
The goal of the ceasefire negotiations was to ensure the safety of humanitarian workers. However, due to security restrictions, it has been difficult for the Red Crescent volunteers to walk through the streets to collect the bodies.
The Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project reports that more than 1,800 people have died, and the UN estimates that at least 1.6 million people have been displaced within the nation or outside its borders, with many of them fleeing to South Sudan, Egypt, and the Chad.
According to the most recent, ambiguous reconstructions, it appears like General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army is getting ready to begin a new offensive in the capital in an effort to retake some of the land that the RSF, led by General Mohamed Hamdan “Hemeti” Dagalo, had previously seized.
