The president of Uganda, Museveni, has reaffirmed his appeals for a truce in Sudan and cautioned the army against anthropomorphizing the nation.
The current round of battle between the Sudanese army, under the command of Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), under the command of Mohamed Hamdan Daglo ‘Hemedti’, a fellow coup plotter and his former deputy, broke out on April 14. The warring parties have broken cease-fire agreements several times, and neither side has bowed to appeals for a truce from the UN, the AU, or the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (Igad), among others. Museveni warned the Sudanese government against sectarianism as well.
I once again recommended that they abandon identity politics and concentrate on politics of interest, Museveni stated.
On April 17, he denounced the violence, calling it a misuse of force that undoes the advancements gained via communication over the previous several months.
